The Matrix 4 Officially Confirmed! Keanu to Return as Neo

Warner Bros. Picture Group Chairman Toby Emmerich has announced the deal to produce a fourth Matrix movie with Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) returning to their roles, and Lana Wachowski to both write and direct. the Variety report also suggests that Morpheus will return but with a younger actor in the role. This is all very exciting as the matrix franchise is one of the most iconic in the action movie genre. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, Lana and her sister Lily Wachowski wrote and directed the Matrix movies. It was a huge hit with over $1.6 billion in box office revenue.

Emmerich's announcement in an interview with Variety stated, "We could not be more excited to be re-entering 'The Matrix' with Lana. Lana is a true visionary, a singular original creative filmmaker- we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in 'The Matrix' Universe.

Keanu Reeves reportedly hinted in 2011 that a fourth and fifth instalment of The Matrix movie could happen. Warner Bros. where ready to give it a go, but due to some rights issue, the production was delayed. Keanu's star power and new highly profitable franchise John Wick showed the studio a renewed potential for the Wachowski-penned movie.

Lana Wachowski has also expressed her exciting to be part of this comeback for The Matrix, she said "Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

A screening of the Orignal Matrix, to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary, will take place at specific AMC locations on August 30th.
